Information gathered today by the Michigan Department of Transportation shows details of how the transportation-funding package introduced last week would impact local communities, and the numbers are impressive. This news comes on the same day that work crews in Montcalm County are returning nearly 10 miles of primary road to gravel because of insufficient dollars to repair or replace the crumbled pavement.

The numbers show that funds going to local units of government for road repair could nearly double over five years depending on gas prices.

Although the petition is non-binding and will not change the law, the names of petition signers will be presented to state policymakers to demonstrate the level of support in Michigan for investing in our state’s infrastructure.
