Oregon Gov. Ted Kulongoski signed a bill Wednesday that he believes will create thousands of new jobs in Oregon.

Kulongoski signed the Jobs and Transportation Act, which calls for more than $1 billion in infrastructure funding, at Portland’s Union Station rail depot. The bill was a priority for Kulongoski during his last full session as the state’s governor.

Kulongoski said House Bill 2001 will provide jobs building roads, bridges, bike and pedestrian facilities, mass transit facilities, railroads, ports and airports.

“This bill represents a fundamental shift in how we approach transportation,” Kulongoski said in a statement. The measure will further advance “our goals of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and reducing our dependence on foreign sources of fossil fuels.”

Sign the Petition

The Michigan Transportation Team (MTT) recently announced an online petition drive for citizens who are tired of driving on pothole-riddled streets. Although the petition is non-binding and will not change the law, the names of petition signers will be presented to state policymakers to demonstrate the level of support in Michigan for investing in our state’s infrastructure.
