Michigan's roads and bridges are falling apart, so says the Michigan Infrastructure and Transportation Association. The group's Mike Nystrom says when you see plywood under a bridge, that's not a repair--it's there to prevent concrete from falling on cars.

The revenue to properly repair bridges in Michigan simply is not there and phased increases in gas taxes and fees, he says, are needed. He says they don't present any immediate danger, but the situation does need to be addressed. By their count, 28-percent of Michigan's bridges--just over three-thousand--are, quote, "either structurally deficient or functionally obsolete."
